Most people who die in a fire are killed by the smoke and not by the fire itself. Buildings must be constructed, adapted and maintained in such a way as to prevent, as far as possible, any fire from spreading rapidly. In addition, people and animals must be given enough time to escape the building in the event of a fire and the fire brigade must be enabled to fight the fire quickly and effectively. Smoke curtains play an increasingly important role in this.
By providing large spaces and escape routes with smoke curtains in the right spot, the speed at which smoke spreads can be drastically reduced. In combination with an RWA system, it is even possible to extract the smoke via a forced, natural route to the outside.
